Feine Geometrien Fine Geometries Des géométrie fi nes Christian Choisy Zart und kraftvoll zugleich Christian Choisy wurde 1948 in Bordeaux geboren und ist wahrlich ein Maler, der ohne Eﬀ ekte oder grelle Farben Aufmerksamkeit erhascht. Der Fokus seiner Kunst liegt auf der Transparenz der Flächen sowie auf der Verwendung weicher Farben, die sich cremig abgestuft entfalten oder die mit warmen bräunlichen und grün-grauen Farbtönen zurückhaltend kombiniert sind. Ein perfekt ausgewogenes Gleichgewicht und eine einzigartige räumliche Tiefe kennzeichnen das Werk von Christian Choisy. Am häufi gsten fi ndet man bei ihm Stillleben: Einzelne Blüten mit zarten, zerbrechlichen Stielen in hoch aufragenden, schlanken Vasen erzeugen eine Vertikalität der Linien, die den Ecken und Kanten klarer Farbblöcke wie Sockel, Tische oder Hintergründe entgegengestellt wird. At once delicate and powerful Christian Choisy was born in Bordeaux in 1948 and is genuinely able as an artist to hold the attention without eﬀ ects or garish colours. The focus of his art is on the transparency of the surfaces and on the use of delicate colours, which unfold in creamy graduations or are combined in an understated fashion with brown and green/grey tones. The work of Christian Choisy is charac- terised by a perfectly achieved balance and a unique spatial depth. His favoured vehicle of expression is still lifes: single blooms with delicate, fragile stems in towering, slender vases generate a verticality of line, which contrasts with the corners and edges of distinct colour blocks created by pedestals, tables or backgrounds. The common denominator of his paintings is a clear, harmoni- ous composition and a contemporary style of generous spatula techniques. His unique signature is created by the geometrical forms of his work and the objects depicted therein, broken through here and there by a radiant white or by a keynote colour. Again and again he counterpoints the lithe colours with deep black, thus creating clear accents. By virtue of this technique, his work generates a wonderful dynamism between the soft and the strong, the delicate and the energetic. Choisy is an artist of the soul, who very discretely and understatedly reaches out to the people and the world around him with perfected arrangements and distinctive lines. L ’accent prononcé de son art est la transparence des surfaces et l’utilisation des couleurs douces qui se déploient du crémeux au chaud brun et vert-gris pour des combinaisons retenues. Geschwungene Schönheiten The Appeal of Form Des beautés galbées Matthias Haker Formvollendete Architektur Matthias Haker verblüﬀ t immer wieder mit der Ästhetik seiner erstaunlichen Fotografi en. Der in Dresden lebende Künstler hat einen stilsicheren Blick für Formen und Architektur. Auch wenn an dem ausgewählten Motiv zum Teil bereits erhebliche Spuren der Verwitterung eines verlassenen Gebäudes nagen, schaﬀ t er es die einstige Noblesse und die gespenstische Schönheit mit seinem fotografi schen Auge zum Strahlen zu bringen. In der Serie der Treppenbilder zeigt die verschwenderisch blaue, massiv abblätternde und sich geradewegs in den Himmel zu schrauben scheinende Wendeltreppe genau diese Leidenschaft am Thema Zerfall. Im Kontrast dazu stehen die ins Un- endliche geschwungene Formen der Architektur. Sie lassen die eine Treppe elegant und edel erscheinen mit wunderbar, fein gearbeiteten Geländeverzierungen und einem Fensterabschluss, der wie ein Edelstein die Konstruktion abschließt. Eine andere Treppe betont in ihrer gemauerten Bausubstanz und Art der Beleuchtung dagegen einen kraftvollen, warmen Aufstieg bis ins hoch oben liegende, verschwimmende Nichts. Die vierte Treppe fängt sachlich moderne Treppenarchitektur gekonnt ein: ein kühles weiß mit schlichtem Geländer und Handlauf aus Edelstahl triﬀ t auf bunte Akzente, die Haker fantastisch von unten wie Farbspritzer einfängt. Haker spielt mit verschiedenen Belichtungen, setzt sie zusammen, bis sein so typischer Stil sichtbar wird, der auch dieses gelungene Quartett auszeichnet. A resident of Dresden, the artist maintains a consistent style with his eye for form and architecture. Even if his chosen themes show sometimes consider- able signs of the wear and tear suﬀ ered by abandoned buildings under the onslaught of the elements, his photographic eye still manages to capture their erstwhile nobility and phantasmic beauty and to make them shine. His series of staircase images show a spiral staircase that is opulently blue but is peeling en masse, appearing to wind all the way up to heaven, a fi tting example of this passion for the topic of decay. It is contrasted by the way the architecture appears to curve into unendingness. It makes the staircase appear elegant and noble with wonderfully, ornately decorated railings and a window that refi nes the structure like a jewel. The masonry and the lighting of another staircase emphasise a powerful, warming ascent up to the unfocused nothingness that lies high above. The fourth staircase skilfully captures modern staircase architecture with an objective eye – a cool white with a simple railing and a stainless steel handrail meets colourful touches that Haker captures fantastically from below like injections of colour. Haker plays with diﬀ erent exposure methods, assembling them together until his typical style becomes apparent, the defi ning feature of this marvelous tetralogy of images. Une architecture parfaite Matthias Haker ne cesse de nous surprendre avec l’esthétisme de ses photo-graphies étonnantes. Cet artiste qui vit à Dresde dispose d’une sensibilité esthétique pour les formes et l’architecture. Même lorsque sur le motif choisi, les traces de l’altération d’un bâtiment abandonné sont par endroit déjà très visibles, il parvient à lui rendre sa noblesse ancienne et à y apporter une beauté fantomatique grâce à son œil photographique. Dans la série de photographies consacrées aux escaliers, l’escalier à vis fortement écaillé et d’un bleu intense semblant monter vers le ciel est l’illustration parfaite de sa passion pour le thème du délabrement. Les formes architecturales galbées et sans fi n apportent ici un contraste. Elles confèrent à un escalier une élégance et un raﬃ nement grâce aux magnifi ques décorations extrêmement fi nes des rampes ou font apparaitre une fenêtre comme une pierre précieuse apportant la note fi nale à la construction. Un autre escalier au contraire, dans sa substance maçonnée et le type de luminosité met en valeur une ascension pleine de chaleur et de dynamisme vers le néant situé tout en haut et dans le fl ou. Le quatrième escalier montre avec talent une architecture fonctionnelle et moderne : un blanc froid avec une rampe sobre et une main-courante en acier inoxydable sont associés à des accents multicolores que Haker capture de manière fantastique depuis le bas, comme des taches de peinture. Un quatuor d’escaliers unique que nous souhaitons mettre en valeur avec cette édition spéciale imprimée sur du papier Hahnemühle Photo Rag. poetische Illusionen Poetical Illusions Illusion poétique Birgit Huttemann-Holz Poesie von Farbpigmenten und Wachs Erst über Umwege kam diese Künstlerin zu den vielfältigen Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten der Malerei. Aufgewachsen ist sie im Raum Karlsruhe und wurde schon früh von den Arbeiten ihres Onkels, dem herausragenden Künstler Werner Holz, beeinfl usst. Zunächst hatte sich Birgit Huttemann-Holz allerdings der Poesie verschrieben, gefolgt von einem Studium der Literatur und Philosophie. Ein Umzug kurz darauf in die USA hatte zur Folge, dass der Verlust der deutschsprachigen Umgebung ihrem literarischen Wirken ein Ende setzte. Die Künstlerin fand jedoch in der Malerei und vor allem in der schon zur Zeit der Antike angewandten Enkaustik eine neue und ihr vollkommen entsprechende Ausdrucksform. Die Faszination dieser Maltechnik mit Bienenwachs liegt in den sich ergebenden Zufällen der Übergänge während des Auftragens und Einbrennens des pigmentierten Wachses. Jedes Werk wird dadurch zu einem neuen Abenteuer zwischen Festhalten und Loslassen. Im Entstehungsprozess kommt es immer wieder zu vermeintlichen »Misserfolgen«, die jedoch eine Neuerfi ndung und eine Evolution in der Bearbeitung erst ermöglichen. Verschwenderische Pigmente gehen mit dem Wachs eine wunderbare Liaison ein, und ermöglichen Texturen oder ganz glatte Oberfl ächengestaltungen. Der einzigartigen Leuchtkraft der Farben stehen raﬃ - nierte Transparenzen gegenüber. Das Licht wandert durch die transparenten Schichten und scheint das Bild von innen heraus zu illuminieren. Die Motive der Künstlerin erzeugen in jedem Fall eine abstrakt poetische Illusion, die immer wieder staunen lässt. Die hier vorgestellten Bilder sind durch Monotypie entstandene, farbintensive Wachsdrucke, die durch Ornamentdetails und fl orale Andeutungen eine besondere Leichtigkeit haben. The poetry of colour pigments and wax It was only through many byways that this artist became aware of the many possibilities for artistic expression in painting. She grew up in the vicinity of Karlsruhe, Germany, and even at an early age was infl uenced by the work of her uncle, the outstanding artist Werner Holz. However, the fi rst love of Birgit Huttemann-Holz was poetry, followed by studies of literature and philosophy. When she relocated shortly after completing her studies to the USA, the loss of the German-speaking environment meant an end to her literary activities. In their stead, the artist discovered painting and above all she found a new mode of expression that perfectly suited her artistic needs in encaustics, a technique which has been practised since antiquity. The fascination of this painting technique with beeswax lies in the fortuitous forms of the transitions created during the application and melting of the pigmented wax. Each work thus becomes a new adventure between the poles of holding on and letting go. The creative process constantly results in apparent “failures”, which are however the prerequisite for reinvention and evolution in the artistic process. Extravagant pigments are combined in a wonderful fashion with wax, creating textured or entirely smooth surfaces. The unique luminescence of the colours is counterpointed by delicate transparencies. The light transfuses the transparent layers and seems to illuminate the picture from the inside. In any event, the motifs of the artist create an abstract poetic illusion that gives the viewer occasion again and again to marvel. The pictures presented here were created by monotype, colour-intensive wax prints that owe their special lightness to ornamental details and fl oral inferences. La poésie des pigments de couleur et de la cire Ce n’est qu’après quelques détours que cette artiste a découvert les multiples possibilités d’expression de la peinture. Ayant grandi près de Karlsruhe, elle a été infl uencée dès son plus jeune âge par les travaux de son oncle qui n’est autre que l’illustre artiste Werner Holz. Dans un premier temps, Birgit Huttemann-Holz s’était toutefois destinée à la poésie, suivie par des études de littérature et de philosophie. Un déménagement aux États-Unis peu de temps après l’amena à mettre fi n à ses activités littéraires du fait de la perte de son entourage germanophone. Dans la peinture, l’artiste trouva cependant une nouvelle forme d’expression qui lui corresponde parfaitement et cela est particulièrement vrai pour la peinture à l’encaustique déjà pratiquée dans l’antiquité. La fascination de cette technique de peinture qui se sert de cire d’abeille réside dans le hasard des transitions qui se créent pendant l’application et pendant la fi xation de la cire pigmentée. Chaque œuvre devient ainsi une nouvelle aventure entre capture et relâchement. Au cours du processus de création, on rencontre constamment de supposés « échecs » sans lesquels une réinvention et une évolu- tion du travail seraient pourtant impossibles. Des pigments à foison entament une liaison merveilleuse avec la cire et permettent la création de textures ou de fi nitions tout à fait lisses. L ’intensité lumineuse exceptionnelle des couleurs contraste avec des trans- parences raﬃ nées. La lumière s’infi ltre à travers les couches transparentes et semble illuminer la peinture de l’intérieur. Les motifs de l’artiste génèrent dans tous les cas une illusion poétique abstraite qui ne cesse de nous étonner. Les peintures présentées ici sont des impressions à la cire aux couleurs intenses, créées par monotype, auxquelles des détails ornementaux et des allusions fl orales confèrent une légèreté particulière. 14

Gegensätze ... Contrasts... Les contrastes... Jadis Die strukturierte Gesellschaft – und der abstrakte Freiraum Die Malerin Jadis wurde 1969 in Mulhouse geboren und lebt im Osten Frankreichs. Ihr Thema sind oft abstrakte Formen, die sie durch eine stark gestisch akzentuierte Malerei umsetzt. Die spontane und intuitive Ausdrucksweise der Künstlerin transferiert ihre Innenwelt in eine wahrnehmbare Außenwelt. Gefühle werden durch den impulsiven Farbauftrag für den Betrachter sichtbar gemacht und erzeugen selbst unterschiedlichste Stimmungen und Anregungen. Jedes Bild von Jadis zeichnet sich durch eine fein austarierte Balance von Körper und Raum aus und jedes Bild fordert dazu auf, sich individuell mit den Kompositionen auseinanderzusetzen. Dabei ziehen die oft geheimnisvollen Farberlebnisse den Betrachter magisch in ihren Bann. Farbwahl und Bildaufteilung fügen sich spielerisch immer wieder neu, wirken mal beruhigend, mal unverhoﬀ t herausfordernd. So auch in unserer Limited Edition. Das rein Zufällige wird hier durchbrochen von sich in den Vordergrund drängenden Silhouetten aufgereiht stehender Menschen mit Akten- oder Handtaschen. Anonyme und gesichtslose Sozialisation triﬀ t auf individuelle Schaﬀ enskraft. Das scheinbar geordnete Miteinander sowie die vorherrschenden, sich wiederholenden Alltagsstrukturen werden hinterfragt durch dynamische Kreativität und Abstraktion. Ein spannender Gegensatz! The structured society and the abstract free space The painter Jadis was born in 1969 in Mulhouse and still lives in Eastern France. Her subject is often abstract forms, which she expresses with a painting style accentuated by strong gestures. The spontaneous and intuitive mode of expression of the painter transposes her inner world into a tangible external one. Feelings are made visible for the viewer by impulsive application of paint and themselves generate the widest variety of moods and stimuli. Each of her works is characterised by a fi nely struck balance of body and space, and each picture challenges the individual viewer to a critical dialogue with the compositions, with the mysterious colour experience often casting a spell on the viewer. The colour scheme and composition of the pictures playfully connect in ever new combinations, sometimes soothing, sometimes unexpectedly challenging. Just like in our Limited Editions. The purely coincidental is interrupted here by silhouettes of standing people pushing to the fore with briefcases or handbags. Anonymous and faceless socialisation meets individual creativity. The seem- ingly orderly cohesion as well as the prevailing, repetitive everyday structures are questioned by dynamic creativity and abstraction. An exciting contrast! La société structurée et l’espace libre abstrait L ’artiste peintre Jadis est née en 1969 à Mulhouse et vit dans l’Est de la France. Son thème de prédilection, ce sont les formes abstraites qu’elle réalise dans un style de peinture fortement empreint par les gestes. Le mode d’expression spontané et intuitif de l’artiste transfère son monde intérieur au monde extérieur perceptible. Les sentiments sont rendus visibles aux yeux de l’observateur par l’application impulsive des couleurs et génèrent eux-mêmes les ambiances et inspirations les plus diverses. Chaque peinture de Jadis se caractérise par un équilibre délicat entre corps et espace et chacune d’entre elles est une invitation à se confronter individuellement à ses compositions. Les constructions de couleurs mystérieuses ont souvent un eﬀ et envoûtant sur l’observateur. Le choix des couleurs et la répartition au sein de la peinture se réinventent sans cesse, parfois avec un eﬀ et calmant, parfois dans une provocation inespérée. Cela est également le cas de notre édition limitée. Le côté purement hasardeux est cassé par des silhouettes humaines qui s’imposent au premier plan, debout en rang et portant des serviettes ou des sacs à main. La socialisation anonyme et sans visage rencontre la puissance créatrice individuelle. Les ensembles en apparence ordonnés ainsi que les structures récurrentes du quotidien prédominantes sont remis en question par la créativité dynamique et l’abstraction. Un contraste fascinant ! 20

zwischen Positiv und Negativ Between Positve and Negative Entre positif et négatif Betina Kaiser Eine vielschichtige und experimentelle Ausdrucksform Die gebürtige Dresdenerin ist seit 1993 freischaﬀ ende Künstlerin. Über das Studium des freien Zeichnens kam die Künstlerin später zur Druckgrafi k, die weitestgehend die künstlerische Grundlage ihrer heutigen Arbeiten bildet. Die eingesetzten Materiali- en und die handwerklich ausgereiften Hand-Drucke lassen individuelle und spannungsreiche Unikate entstehen. Das anregende Wechselspiel zwischen Positiv und Negativ schaﬀ t unterschiedliche Bildebenen und Überlagerungen, in denen bereits vorhan- dene Spuren immer wieder modifi ziert werden. Malerei, Collage und Druck gehen in ihren Werken nicht selten eine kunstvolle Symbiose ein. Betina Kaiser hinterfragt immer wieder ihre Bildobjekte und unterzieht sie mehrmaligen Neuinterpretationen. Experimentelle Hochdruck-Techniken schaﬀ en Linien, die für die Künstlerin vielschichtiger sind als gemalte oder gezeichnete Varianten. In den reliefartigen Bildern fi ndet oft sogar der Druckstock selbst kreative Verwendung im Spiel zwischen Formen, Räumen, Farbfl ächen und zerbrechlichen Strichen. Die naturnahen Themen ihrer Bilder sind in Blau, Rot, Grau und in erdigen Tönen gehalten. Die Farbfl ächen, auf denen die Linien mit Bedacht kalkulierte und hervortretende Lebensadern bilden, changieren jeweils in ihrer Helligkeit und ihrer Transparenz. Sie gestaltet seit 2010 als Dozentin und Kursleiterin zahlreiche Veranstaltungen und Workshops, unter anderem im eigenen Atelier im pfälzischen Speyer. A multifaceted and experimental form of expression Betina Kaiser, a native of Dresden, has been a freelance artist since 1993. After studying drawing, the artist later came to print, which now forms the artistic foundation of her work. The materials used and the adept craftsmanship evident in the hand prints create individual and excitingly unique pieces. The stimulating interplay between positive and negative creates diﬀ erent image planes and superimpositions in which existing traces are modifi ed again and again. Painting, collage and print not infrequently enter into an artistic symbiosis in her work. Betina Kaiser repeatedly reexamines her artistic objects and submits them to several reinterpretations. Experimental high- pressure techniques create lines that are more complex from the artist's point of view than painted or drawn variants. In the relief-like pictures, the printing stock itself often fi nds creative application in the interplay between forms, spaces, colour surfaces and tentative strokes. The natural themes of her pictures are exemplifi ed by the blue, red, grey and earthy tones preferred by her. The colour surfaces, on which the lines are carefully calculated and which form prominent pulsating arteries, all fl uctuate in brightness and transparency. Since 2010 she has been teaching and lecturing at numerous events and workshops, including in her own studio in Speyer, in the German province of Rhineland Palatinate. Un mode d’expression multifacette et expérimental Née à Dresde, Betina Kaiser est une artiste indépendante depuis 1993. Suite à des études de dessin, elle s’est ensuite intéressée à la sérigraphie qui représente aujourd’hui la principale base artistique de ses œuvres. Les matériaux utilisés ainsi que des tech- niques d’impression manuelle complexes lui permettent d’obtenir des œuvres uniques et fascinantes. L’alternance stimulante entre positif et négatif crée diﬀ érents plans et superpositions où l’artiste modifi e sans cesse les empreintes existantes. Dans ses œuvres, la peinture, le collage et la technique d’impression se mêlent souvent dans une symbiose artistique. Betina Kaiser remet toujours en question ses objets graphiques et les réinterprète plusieurs fois. Des techniques expérimentales de typographie donnent naissance à des lignes qui oﬀ rent à l’artiste plus de possibilités que des versions peintes ou dessinées. Dans ces peintures en relief, le tampon prend même souvent un rôle créatif dans le jeu entre formes, espaces, surfaces de cou- leur et traits fragiles. Les thématiques proches de la nature de ses peintures se déclinent dans des tons bleus, rouges, gris et bruns. Les lignes forment des artères de vie soigneusement calculées et mises en valeur sur des surfaces colorées brillantes par leur clarté et leur transparence. Depuis 2010, en sa qualité de maître de conférence et d’enseignante, elle propose de nombreuses manifestations et séminaires notamment dans son atelier à Spire (Spyer), dans le Rhénanie-Palatinat en Allemagne. 24

Fernweh The Longing for far away Places La nostalgie du voyage Yann Letestu Zarte Motive zwischen Gehen und Bleiben Yann Letestu wurde 1977 in Cassis geboren, studierte in Orléans Kunst, lebt und arbeitet heute in der Küstenstadt Marseille. Die Bilder dieses Künstlers tragen eine große Sehnsucht in sich. Als Kind trat er zusammen mit seiner Familie eine ungewöhnliche Reise an, denn sie machten einen einzigartigen Segeltörn und überquerten dabei den Atlantik von Marseille nach Venezuela. This experience left a lasting impression on Yann Letestu, whose work gently evokes the melancholy of the traveller – torn between the pain of farewell and the urge to see far away places. Sie hat an der Kunsthochschule in Taschkent ihr Diplom erworben, lebt und arbeitet aber mittlerweile in Deutschland. So vielschichtig wie ihr Heimatland sind die dort zusam- mentreﬀ enden Kulturen, wodurch die Künstlerin auf einen großen Fundus unterschiedlichster Traditionen zurückgreifen kann. Wie Sedimente überlagern sich auch die Malschichten in ihren Bildern. Unter jeder Schicht oﬀ enbaren sich neue, überra- schende Spuren, die da und dort auch ineinander übergehen. Vorwiegend malt Luci innerstädtische Architekturmotive, über denen Figuren der Stadtgeschichte, Schutzpatrone oder reine Fantasiewesen schweben. Wie in Traumsequenzen verschmelzen Figuren und Objekte miteinander, werden überlagert oder durchdringen sich. Durch diese Mixtur aus Traum und Realität erwachsen sehr fantasievolle und lebendige Bilderrätsel mit vielen Andeutungen und Geheimnissen. Die Künstlerin konzentriert sich auf einzelne Bau-Elemente aus Großstädten wie Berlin, Hamburg und Köln auf jene verwunschene Art und Weise und setzt sich in ihren Werken ganz persönlich mit dem Wesen der jeweiligen Stadt ausein- ander. Mal ist es Bewunderung, mal Verliebtheit, mal ist es ein schwer erarbeiteter Zugang zur porträtierten Stadt, der sie in ihrer Malerei anspornt. Himmels- und Wasserwesen waren dagegen schon in frühester Jugend ein leidenschaftliches Thema, welches auch heute noch als Gegenpol zur realen Welt einfl ießt. Angetrieben durch ständige Bewegungen und Veränderungen in der Welt, entwickelt Luci farbintensive Kompositionen aus sichtbaren und unsichtbaren Fragmenten der Stadtgesichter. The cultures that come together in her homeland refl ect the diversity of the country itself, mean- ing that the artist is able to draw on a wide range of diﬀ erent traditions. The layers of paint in her pictures are superimposed like layers of sediment, under each layer, new, surprising traces be- come evident, which merge here and there. Luci primarily paints inner-city architectural motifs, over which fi gures of city history, patron saints or pure fantasies hover. As in dream sequences, fi gures and objects merge, become superimposed or interpenetrate. As a result of this mixture of dream and reality, very imaginative and vivid picture puzzles are created with many suggestions and mysteries. The artist focuses on individual building elements from big cities like Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne in a dreamlike way, and personally expresses the essence of the respective city in her work. Sometimes it is admiration, sometimes infatua- tion, sometimes it is a diﬃ cultly in establishing a connection with the portrayed city, which inspires her painting. On the other hand, sky and water have always been a passionate theme since her early youth, which still serves in her art as a counterpoint to the real world. Urged on by constant movements and changes in the world, Luci develops colour-intensive compositions from visible and invisible fragments of cityscapes, with colours creating strong accents. Autodidaktisch erarbeitete sie sich eine künstlerische Ausbildung und stellt seither unter dem Künstlernamen Mira aus. Das Ungewöhnliche an Mira ist die Vielseitigkeit ihres umfangreichen Schaﬀ ens. Entscheidend prägte sie ein sogenanntes »Erleuchtungserlebnis«, das sie 1989 im Alter von 20 Jahren erlebte. Begonnen hat ihre künstlerische Laufb ahn im Bereich Fotographie, als sie im Alter von 14 Jahren ihre erste Kamera bekam und sofort intensiv nutzte. Mit Makroaufnahmen von Blüten stürzte sie sich in die Vielfalt von natürlichen Formen und Farben und hielt diese perfekt fokussiert mit ihrer Kamera fest. Fasziniert von derartiger Photographie im Nahbereich, die die eigentlich so vergäng- liche Natur als Momentaufnahme sehr detailliert festzuhalten vermag, begann sie später damit sich mit den verschiedensten künstlerischen Verfahren auseinander zu setzen. Ihr Schaﬀ ensweg führte sie zunächst hin zur Aquarellmalerei. Riesige Blüten in Anlehnung an die Welt der Makrophotographie entstanden mit großzügigen Pinselstrichen. Heute arbeitet sie reduziert im „Stempeldruck“ und setzt Akzente mit schwungvollen Pinselwürfen. Dabei geht es Mira um die Schärfung des Blicks auf das Wesentliche – kein farbig gestalteter Hintergrund lenkt den Betrachter ab. Der Weißraum des Papiers steht im klaren Kontrast zu den feinen Lebenslinien der gedruckten Blätter, die ebenso zarte wie vitale und vor allem hautnahe Kontakt-Abzüge der Natur zeigen. Die höchstens um einfarbige Pinseltropfen erweiterten Motive haben eine zweite Wahrnehmungsebene, in der Mira wie bei einem feinen Regen neues Lebenselixier versprüht. What is unusual about Mira is the sheer versatility of her extensive body of work. She was lastingly infl uenced by what she names an “enlightenment experience” that she underwent at the age of 20 in 1989. She started her artistic career in the area of photography when she was given a camera at the age of 14 and immediately started to use it intensively. With macro images of fl owers, she immersed herself in the variety of natural forms and colours, and recorded these in perfect focus with her camera. Fascinated by this kind of close-up photography that enabled her to capture nature in very detailed snapshots, she later began to explore a wide range of artistic techniques. Her creative urge fi rst led her to aquarelle painting. Huge blossoms were thus created with broad brush strokes inspired by the world of macrophotog- raphy. Now, however, she works less with screen printing and sets the tone with energetic brushwork. For Mira it is a question of opening the eye for the essential – the viewer is not distracted by any colourful background. The blankness of the white paper is in clear contrast to the fi ne lines of the printed leaves that at once show delicate and vibrant, but above all up close contact prints of nature. The motifs that are at most developed with monocoloured drops from the paint brush have a second level of perception, which Mira injects with a new elixir of life like a fi ne rain. Aujourd’hui, elle a réduit son travail à l’impression au tampon, ajoutant des accents grâce aux projections de pinceau dyna- miques. Ce qui importe pour Mira, c’est d’aiguiser le regard afi n qu’il se focalise sur l’essentiel – aucun arrière-plan coloré ne distrait l’observateur. Le fond blanc du papier contraste très clairement avec les lignes de vie en fi ligrane des feuilles imprimées qui montrent des tirages par contact de la nature aussi délicats que vitaux et surtout pris sur le vif. Les motifs, complétés tout au plus par quelques gouttes de peinture monochromes, oﬀ rent un deuxième niveau de perception où Mira disperse un nouvel élixir de vie telle une fi ne pluie. 36

Die Künstlerin spaziert durch einen imaginären poetischen Garten. Ihre Werke aus Acryl auf Leinwand entstehen durch die Zusammenführung von Methode und Zufall und erzeugen eine eigenwillige Spannung zwischen Positiv und Negativ, Ordnung und Zufall, Lösen und Halten. Zum einen setzen sich ihre Kompositionen aus präzisen gegenständlichen und rein schwarzen Silhouetten zusammen. Zum anderen schweben diese geplanten fi ligranen Elemente auf zufällig entworfenen Farbst- rukturen, die in den Farbtönen und in der Raumaufteilung völlig losgelöst sind von Ordnungsprinzipien. Der Betrachter begegnet einem fragilen Schwebezustand, der nicht durch einen festen Bezugspunkt defi niert ist. Marie Madeleine Noiseux gibt nur einen scharf umrissenen Anfangsimpuls und stellt es dann frei, sich im restlichen Bildraum eigenständig zu orientieren. Dies alles verleiht ihren Werken eine sinnliche und sensible Textur und Ausstrahlung. In ihrer Biographie war die Künstlerin immer wieder konfrontiert mit dem Wechsel zwischen dem Leben in der Großstadtenge von Europa und dem konträren Freiraum einer dünn besiedelten kanadischen Umgebung. Diesem Spiel zwischen eng und weit, nah und fern, begegnet man in ihren Bildern auf sehr anziehende Weise. An attractive duality Marie Madeleine Noiseux was born in Canada in 1952. The artist takes us through an imaginary poetic gar- den. Her works of acrylic on canvas are a combination of method and chance, creating an individual tension between positive and negative, order and chaos, letting go and holding on. On the one hand, her compositions are based on precise representational and pure black silhouettes, on the other, these deliberate fi ligree elements fl oat on random colour structures, in which tones and the spatial divisions become completely detached from the principle of order. Viewers are transported into a fragile hovering state, in which they cannot cling to a fi xed reference point. Marie Madeleine Noiseux only provides the sharply defi ned initial impulse and then sets it free to orientate itself freely in the rest of the picture space. All this goes to give her works a sensuous and sensitive texture and radiance. In her personal biography, the artist was repeatedly confronted with the sharp contrast between the bustling life of Europe and the contrasting sparsely populated rural environment in Canada. This interplay between close and wide, near and far, is pointed up in her pictures in a very attractive way. Une dualité fascinante Marie Madeleine Noiseux est née en 1952 au Canada. Spuren der Vergänglichkeit Traces of Transience Sur les traces de l'éphémère Rose Richter-Armgart Mehr Andeutung als bekräftigte Formen Die Arbeiten von Rose Richter-Armgart sind vielseitig, entwickeln sich fortwährend weiter und stecken voller Poesie, die von alten Formen und neuen Ansichten leben und zugleich delikate Kompositionen aus Farbtönen und Symbolen sind. Kompositionen aus vielschichtig aufgetragenen Farben, die einen dreidimensionalen Eindruck suggerieren. Naturalistische Motive und Elemente wechseln sich in ihren Schaﬀ ensphasen mit rein abstrakten Darstellungen ab. Die Stillleben sind durch eine kraftvolle Farbwahl gekennzeichnet, die den Betrachter einfangen, um sich für die tiefer liegenden Details zu interessieren. In vielen ihrer Gemälde bleibt es jedoch bei Andeutungen. Die transparent aufgelegten Farbschichten, bestehend aus Öl, Lack und Schlagmetall auf Holz, Karton oder Leinwand, bestechen durch eine intensive Farbtiefe. Scharfk antige Flächen gehen ein Wechselspiel mit einem horizontalen Farbauftrag ein. Es entstehen zu „lebendigen“ Farb-Landschaften vereinte Bildareale, die sofort Assoziationen wecken und Vergleiche mit erlebten Landstrichen zulassen. Diese Bilder strahlen durch den dominanten horizontalen Duktus insgesamt eine große Anmut und eine unaufgeregte, vollkommen harmonische Ruhe aus. Sie bergen viel von der Künstlerin selbst und auch ein wenig von unserer Geschichte, von Vergangenem und Zukünftigem, von unseren Gefühlen und Sehnsüchten. Verstärkt wird dieser Eindruck durch Blattgold bzw. -silber und durch rudimentäre Zeichnungsreste. Zuweilen geht die Künstlerin aber auch ganz andere Wege, bricht aus, benutzt andere Techniken und Ausdrucksformen, was ihr Gesamt- werk sehr bereichert. Die hier vorgestellten Werke in limitierter Aufl age sind handsignierte Siebdrucke, die mit ihrer ziegelroten Leuchtkraft anziehen und dennoch die Aufmerksamkeit auf die hellen Umrisse lenken. Menschliche Silhouetten, gehüllt in traditionelle Gewänder, Objekte und verhaltene Ornamente aus scheinbar fernen Kulturen werden angerissen, verlieren sich aber wieder in diesem wunderbaren Rot. Sie wirken wie aus einer anderen Zeit stammend und regen zur dargestellten zwischenmenschlichen Kommunikation an. More suggestion than aﬃ rmed forms The work of Rose Richter-Armgart is multi-faceted and is constantly progressing. It is full of poetry animated by old forms and new insights, consisting of delicate compositions of colour shades and symbols. The compositions are made of colours applied in many layers that give an impression of three dimensionality. Naturalistic motifs and elements alternate in her creative phases with purely abstract representations. The still lifes are characterised by strong colours that initially capture the viewer's attention before encourag- ing consideration of the details at a deeper level. Many of her paintings, however, remain at the level of evocation and suggestion. The transparently applied layers of colour, consist- ing of oil, paint and beaten metal on wood, card or canvas, captivate with their intensive tone depth. Sharp-edged surfaces create an interplay with a horizontal colour application. Picture areas create “living” colour landscapes, which immediately invoke associations and comparisons with personally experienced land tracts. In general, these pictures with their predominately horizontal brush stroke radiate great charm and a subtle, completely harmonious tranquillity. The paintings contain a lot of the painter herself and also a little of our history, from the past and future, from our feelings and longings. This impression is reinforced by gold and silver leaf, and by rudimentary drawing remnants. Sometimes the artist adopts an entirely diﬀ erent approach, uses other techniques and forms of expression, which goes to greatly enrich the entire corpus of her work. The works presented here in a limited edition of hand signed silk prints, attract with their carmine red radiance while still drawing the attention to the light outlines. Human silhouettes, wrapped in traditional robes, objects and restrained ornaments from apparently remote cultures are sketched out but lost again in this wonderful red. They seem to originate in another age and encourage viewers to participate in the depicted interpersonal communication. Des compositions qui se servent de cou- leurs appliquées en maintes couches suggérant une impression de tridimensionnalité. Des motifs et éléments naturalistes alternent avec des représentations purement abstraites au cours de ses phases créatives. Ses natures mortes se caractérisent par un choix de couleurs vives, capturant le regard de l’observateur et l’invitant à s’intéresser aux détails qui se situent plus en profondeur. Dans bon nombre de ses peintures, ces derniers restent toutefois au stade de l’allusion. Les couches de peintures apposées de manière transparente, composées d’huile, de vernis et de feuilles métalliques sur bois, carton ou toile, séduisent par une profondeur de couleur intense. Des étendues aux arêtes marquées apparaissent en alternance avec une application horizontale de la peinture. Il en résulte des zones de peinture distinctes qui, une fois réunies, forment des paysages de couleurs « vivants » évoquant immédiatement des associations et permettant des comparaisons avec des endroits que nous avons visités. Grâce au trait horizontal prédominant, ces peintures brillent dans l’ensemble par leur allure gracieuse et par une sérénité sobre et parfai- tement harmonieuse. Elles refl ètent en grande partie l’artiste elle-même mais aussi un peu de notre histoire, du passé et de l’avenir, de nos sentiments et de nos désirs. Cette impression est renforcée par des feuilles d’or ou d’argent et par des traces de dessins rudimentaires. Par- fois, l’artiste sort toutefois des sentiers battus, s’échappe, utilise d’autres techniques et formes d’expression ce qui accroît grandement la richesse de son œuvre. Les œuvres présentées ici en édition limitée sont des sérigraphies signées qui séduisent par leur intensité lumineuse en rouge brique tout en attirant l’attention sur les contours clairs. Des silhouettes humaines, vêtues d’habits traditionnels, des objets et des ornements discrets en apparence issus de cultures lointaines sont esquissés avant de se perdre à nouveau dans ce rouge merveilleux. Elles semblent dater d’un autre temps et incitent à la communication interhumaine qu’elles représentent. 46

Seine Liebe zu Paris, der französischen Hauptstadt mit vielen Gesichtern und mit herausragender Architektur, verführte ihn unablässig, Fotos zu machen. Er hielt mit seiner Kamera immer wieder Gebäude, Objekte, Gesichter, Bäume, Tiere, Straßen- fl uchten, Schilder, Wortfetzen an Wänden und sonstige Alltags-Details fest. Eine umfassende digitale Fotosammlung kam auf diese Weise zustande, aus der André Sanchez schier unendlich kreativ schöpfen kann. Am Computer werden die Bilder kombiniert, überlagert, verwandelt und verfremdet. Viele Nahaufnahmen dienen ihm dabei für unglaublich überraschende Texturen in Kombination mit Objekten oder Gesichtern. Seine hier vorgestellten Tier-Portraits zeigen Tierkopfansichten, die zunächst wie Negative anmuten. Sie werden überlagert und hinterlegt mit Landkartendetails in Sepia-Tönen, mit Bäumen, Vegetation, Ornamentik, Fahnenandeutungen und Textaus- zügen. Ebenso in die Darstellungen integriert sind Abbildungen von Miniatur-Artgenossen in kompletter Gestalt. Jedes Tier erzählt anhand dieser Bilddurchdringungen eine kleine Geschichte zu seiner Herkunft und seinem Lebensraum, allerdings eher beiläufi g und schmückend. Besonders edel wirken die Motive durch den matten und relativ hellen Sepia-Grundton in den Randbereichen der Portraits. Die nuancierte Kolorierung in poppigen, nicht in der Natur im Zusammenspiel mit diesen Tieren vorkommenden Farben, macht die Bilder besonders anziehend. His love for Paris, the French capital city with its many faces and outstanding architecture, inspires him to tirelessly take photographs. With his camera, he constantly captures buildings, objects, faces, trees, animals, streetscapes, signs, snippets on walls and other details of everyday life. This tireless activity has resulted in a comprehensive digital collection of photos, a bottomless well of inspiration from which André Sanchez can endlessly draw. On his computer, the images are combined, superimposed, transformed and decontextualised. Many of his close-ups are used to create incredibly surprising textures in combination with objects or faces. His animal portraits presented here show views of animal heads, which initially seem like negatives. Details from maps in sepia tones, with trees, vegetation, ornamentation, suggestions of fl ags and text excerpts are alternatively superimposed or subimposed. Also integrated into the works are pictures of miniature representatives of the species in complete form. Each animal tells a little story about its origin and its habitat by means of these images, although this all seems rather coincidental and decorative. The motifs are particularly enhanced by the matt and relatively bright underlying sepia tone in the margins of the portraits. The nuanced colouring in loud colours, which do not naturally occur in relation to these animals, makes the images particularly attractive. Superpositions pleines de fantaisie L ’artiste André Sanchez, né en 1972 à Bordeaux, vit aujourd’hui à Paris où il travaille dans le domaine de l’art numérique et crée des mélanges pleins d’imagination à partir de photos, de graphiques, de textures numérisées, de découpages et de collages. Son amour pour Paris, capitale française aux multiples visages et à l’architecture exceptionnelle, l’a constamment incité à prendre des photos. Avec sa caméra, il immortalisait sans cesse bâtiments, objets, visages, arbres, animaux, rues, panneaux, bribes de mots sur les murs et autres détails du quotidien. Une vaste collection de photos numérique a ainsi vu le jour et permet à André Sanchez d’y puiser pratiquement sans limites pour nourrir sa créativité. Sur ordinateur, il combine, superpose, transforme et détourne les images. Des nombreux plans rapprochés lui servent pour des textures incroyablement surprenantes en combinaison avec des objets ou des visages. Ses portraits d’animaux présentés ici montrent des plans de visages d’animaux aux allures de négatifs au premier abord. À ces derniers se superposent les détails d’une carte teintée de sépia, des arbres, une végétation, des ornements, des drapeaux esquissés et des extraits de texte, tout comme ces éléments peuvent également faire oﬃ ce d’arrière-plan. Intégrées de la même manière dans les représentations, on trouve les illustrations de spécimens miniatures en pied. Chaque animal raconte, à l’aide de ces interpénétrations d’images, une petite histoire à propos de son origine et de son habitat, cependant plutôt de façon accessoire et décorative. Une note particulièrement raﬃ née est conférée aux motifs grâce à la teinte de base sépia mate et assez claire en marge des portraits. La coloration nuancée dans des couleurs pop qu’on ne rencontre pas en combinaison avec ces animaux dans la nature rend les images particulièrement attrayantes. 50
